SPECTACULAR

AmaZulu midfielder Pollen Ndlanya with admirers
The CMDA will once again stage the
Cato Manor Soccer Tournament, to be held in July. Soccer clubs
interested in participating in the tournament are invited to come
and register. There will be separate competitions for Juniors
and Seniors. A highlight of the event will be the friendly match
between the Metro Mayor Obed Mlaba XI and the CMDA Clive Forster
X1. Teams are requested to register early so as to allow the organisers
to schedule matches properly and avoid disappointments. School
teams are also invited to register if they wish to participate.
Victorious teams both in the senior and junior categories will
win full soccer kits of their choice with medals, while runners-up
get soccer balls. Team managers wishing to register their teams
should contact one of the following co-ordinators: Boykie Khanyile
- 082 752 6961; Vusi Nduli - 082 746 2809; Eric Msane-082 802
5351 or Zamo Ngobese - 083 506 5012. Registration for the tournament
is free.

Zamo Madkizela (right) with his coach
Twenty-three-year-old Zamo Madikizela from
Chesterville is no ordinary kid. While his mates are soccer mad,
Zamo can be found in the gym perfecting his Kung-Fu Dragon Fist
technique.
Zamo has recently come top of the class during a national team
tournament held in Boksburg. Selected for national team Since
1990 he has worked harder than most Kung-Fu students and his reward
has been selection for the national team, which leaves for the
USA in July to compete with other Kung-Fu disciples from all over
the world. But what is it about Kung Fu that attracted Zamo? "A
lot of youngsters grow up watching Kung-Fu movies.
|
When a school was opened in Chesterville
I joined. From then onwards it became a part of me. Kung-Fu is a
form of discipline. It teaches self-control. It is a way of life.
Fighting is purely for self-defence and should always be the last
resort," said Zamo. Teaching the next generation Kung-Fu Zamo
studies at Durban Technical College during the day, but still finds
time to teach keen youngsters in the evening. His Siu Lam school
has 18 students. "The purpose of opening a school in the township
is to bring the art nearer to the masses and to provide variety.
There is life after soccer and basketball," said Zamo.
