.Getting into the swing of things
.

Increasing TV coverage of golf – and especially Tiger Woods in action – has created a strong desire in many kids in this country to become a champion. Now Cato Manor is jumping on the golf cart. A group of former caddies has formed the Umkhumbane Golf Club to help youngsters who are keen on the sport. The club’s office bearers have arranged for members to be able to use the Westville driving range, which is situated near the Pavilion, on Wednesday mornings for a six-week period. This arrangement may be extended should members of the Cato Manor communities show keen interest. Sthembiso Msweli, the PRO for the Umkhumbane Golf Club said: “We consider ourselves fortunate that the Westville driving range was opened right on our doorstep, and we plan to take full advantage of it. It is also in our minds to approach various sponsors to help us purchase equipment.” The Umkhumbane Golf Club officials plan to visit local schools with the intention of persuading them to offer golf as part of the sport curriculum.
