The long-awaited upgrade of Jamaica settlement
on the outskirts of Chesterville looks set to commence
this year. Universal Property Developers, the company
that was awarded the contract to undertake the upgrade,
has built one show unit to kickstart the project.
Show house
The 20m2 show unit was constructed to give residents
a chance to express their needs before the project
commences. Most residents are impressed by the latest
development.
"The show unit is a clear indication that the
project is ready to move. It appears the waiting has
finally come to an end. Although the house is not
as big as one would have liked, it beats the mud houses
that most of us live in. The good thing is that during
the heavy rains it passed the test with flying colours,"
commented Milton Phewa, a resident of the settlement
since 1993.
Due to new Provincial Housing Development Board policies
residents will have to wait for the process of sales
administration to be finalised, and work on the civils
and infrastructure is completed, before the full scale
construction of houses begins.
However residents will sign their sales agreement
document during the first quarter of this year.

Big
opportunity for sub-contractors
Access
to finance boosts business opportunities
|
Do you want to get away from the life of being
a sub-contractor? Do you want to tender for housing
projects in Cato Manor in your own right? Here is
an opportunity small contractors active in the housing
and related fields within Cato Manor can not afford
to miss.

NURCHA, a loans guarantee company based in Johannesburg,
is offering any Cato Manor based contractor a chance
to break free from big contractor bondage by providing
access to working capital. NURCHA is the manager of
an assistance programme that is aimed at making working
capital finance more accessible to people like yourself.
NURCHA has come up with a plan to offer security
on behalf of people who wish to access capital but
cannot provide the necessary security.
All you need to do is fill in an application form
which is available from the Cato Manor Development
Association's offices. The CMDA has also offered to
assist the first ten applicants with faxing the application
forms to NURCHA free of charge.

Choosing
tenants for new shopping centre.
The allocations process for the new Bellair Road
Shopping Centre, currently under construction, is
still continuing.
The Tenants Applications Review Committee has completed
its task of reviewing applications and subsequently
making public recommendations for the allocation of
space in the Centre. The final decisions will be made
by the CMDA Board of Directors.
Recommendations of the committee have been circulated
to the CMCO and Small Business Associations. People
wishing to make comments or objections are requested
to do so before the February 18th deadline.
Jenny Whitehead of the CMDA said, "Although
the intended completion date was March this year,
excessive rains have prevented the contractors from
being able to meet the deadline. But the outlook of
the complex is extremely positive".
Potential tenants for the ground floor have been
identified.

LOOKING
FOR A JOB?
Information
link at public libraries.
|
Are you looking for a job? Do you have something
to sell or advertise? Then look no further than the
new Infolink at your nearest municipal library.
Most libraries under the Durban Metropolitan Libraries
Department are now becoming user friendly. A new information
link service has been installed in 18 of the libraries
under this department including the Umkhumbane Library
in Dunbar Road.
|

Umkhumbane Library Assistant,
Gugu Dladla, explains how information is accessed to
two school pupils.
|
At each of these libraries is a specially designed
computer screen connected to a computer in the main
library in Durban. At the click of a button you can
access information covering a wide range of services
around you.
The information is divided into categories and sub
categories. The facility offers a classified advertisement
section where you can advertise new or used goods,
or services that you offer. The advert that you placed
will be seen in all the 18 libraries.
Another interesting section is the job search section
which is divided into two sections, one has a form
that you will fill if you are looking for a job. The
form will be displayed on all regions and will be
accessed by employers in the metro area. Business
people who have job vacancies can also advertise on
this section.
