Engineering Projects
ENGINEERING PROJECTS  

 

Bellair Road Upgrade Project
This project extends from Francois Road to Jan Smuts Highway. It is funded jointly by the RDP and the Metro Council, and has a total value of R26.4 million. The work is being done in phases.

Phase 1:

    Concor Road has a contract to upgrade Bellair Road from Francois Road to the Mayville sub station. The extension of the road was completed in December 1999.

Phase 2A:

    The contract to extend Bellair Road from the Mayville sub station to Wiggins Road was awarded to Asphalt Construction. Work is scheduled for completion in March this year.

Phase 2B:

    The design for the extension of Bellair Road from Wiggins Road to Jan Smuts Highway is complete, and construction will begin this year.

COMMUNITY FACILITIES  

 

Multi-Purpose Centre, Cato Crest:
The primary school is in operation and renovation work is continuing and will be completed this month. Part of the secondary school has also been completed.

Work at the Cato Crest Multi Purpose Centre funded by the European Union is nearing completion as evidenced by the community hall shown in the picture. Completion date is set for April this year, weather permitting.

Seven classrooms and the administration block are already being used for grade eight pupils.

The library and the community hall are scheduled for completion in April 2000. The rest of the secondary school and the sports field are scheduled for completion this month.


Pre-schools:
A contract has been awarded for two RDP funded pre-schools to be built in Nsimbini and New Dunbar. While construction on the Nsimbini site started in December last year work on the New Dunbar pre-school project is delayed by the slow progress of relocations.


Primary School:
Work on the primary school in Molver Road, Cato Crest is well underway and is due for final completion in November 2000.

Secondary School:
The secondary school that is being built along Dennis Shepstone Road in Chesterville Extension will be completed in October 2000.


Library:
The RDP funded public library under construction in Booth Road should be completed at the end of April.

Bellair Urban Market & Urban Park:
Construction of the urban park is scheduled for completion in March and the market in April 2000.

The informal market under construction in Bellair Road will be up and running at the end of April. Construction of  the market is funded by the RDP.

Bellair Shopping Centre:
The new shopping centre is well underway, although delays were experienced due to heavy rainfall. Completion is now scheduled for the end of April.
