Unicity Deputy Mayor Logie Naidoo, Local Economic Development Manager
at CMDA
Wim Eising and CMDA’s CEO Clive Forster visited SDT’s exhibition stand
at the Fair.
The
recent Cato Manor Small Business Fair, which was hosted by the CMDA
and supported by the European Union and Sanlam, enjoyed resounding support
from the residents of the area.
A
total of 46 local businesses exhibited their products at the fair. A
remarkable number of these businesses were community based co-operatives.
The event also enjoyed a R50 000 sponsorship from one of South Africa’s
financial powerhouses, Sanlam. Exhibitors won unit trusts to the value
of R10 000 for different categories including a prize for the best organised
exhibition stand. Winners also have an opportunity to attend a business
course at the University of Natal – courtesy of Sanlam.
A number of workshops were also held for exhibitors and interested members
of the public. The workshops were geared towards assisting emerging
entrepreneurs to sustain their businesses while making a profit.
The Small Business Fair is seen as an opportunity for emerging local
businesses to expose and market their products by networking and making
contact with other businesses from outside of Cato Manor.
